Altered Books
Altered Books is a form of art where books are transformed by the sculptural act of an artist, whose techniques such as cutting, pasting, drawing or painting modifies a book’s appearance and meaning.
There are many techniques, styles, and processes for altering books. You can decorate pages with rubber stamping, decoupage, folding, adding color, burning edges, cutting, adding embellishments, painting, beading edges, adding photos or ephemera, and blocking out words to make new phrases.
Target Audience
- This workshop is aimed at anyone who has a love of books, reading and art.
- Open to ages 15 – 105.
Our Trainer
- This creative workshop will be led by local art practitioner and teacher Elizabeth Smythe who has over 20 years’ experience as an art trainer in adult education.

- A basic set of watercolor tubes, pastels, watercolor pencils, and acrylic paints.
- Paint brushes
- Glass jars
- Art paper
- Tea/coffee and biscuits
