About This Course

CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)
This nationally accredited one-day course is a must for anyone who wants to work in the construction industry or access operational construction zones. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 and be eligible to apply for a General Construction Induction (White Card)—a legal requirement in Australia.
The course covers essential safety knowledge, including how to identify and report construction hazards, apply basic risk control measures, respond to incidents and emergencies, and correctly select and fit personal protective equipment (PPE).
It’s ideal for tradespeople, labourers, delivery drivers, site visitors, or anyone returning to construction work after more than two years.

Who Is This Program For?

This course is for any eligible person over the age of 14y.o. who needs a White Card to work or enter construction sites—whether you’re starting a job in the industry, returning after a break, or visiting sites as a contractor, delivery driver, or inspector. It’s ideal for tradespeople, labourers, and anyone seeking a nationally recognised safety credential to meet workplace requirements.

New entrants

People starting work who need a White Card to legally access sites.

Returning workers

Individuals who previously held a White Card but haven’t worked in construction for over two years.

Site visitors and contractors

Delivery drivers, inspectors, or service providers who need unaccompanied access to construction zones.

When And Where

This course is delivered in Batemans Bay, Nowra or Merimbula regions and runs over one full day, from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
The total cost of the course is $150, plus a mandatory $30 SafeWork NSW registration fee. The registration fee applies to all participants, regardless of funding eligibility.
This course is subsidised by the NSW Government for eligible students. To access funding, you must no longer be at school, be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, and live or work in New South Wales.

Physical Requirements for this Course or Related Occupations

Participants and workers needing a White Card (e.g. delivery drivers, inspectors, or service providers entering construction zones) should be able to:

  • Maintain focus and awareness in active worksites
  • Walk on uneven ground and climb stairs or ladders safely
  • Lift or carry up to 10–15 kg
  • Stand, bend, or crouch for short periods
  • See and hear site hazards, signs, and instructions clearly
  • Work safely around dust, noise, and outdoor conditions

Student Support

To succeed, learners need basic English reading, writing, and communication skills (e.g. understanding safety signs and completing written assessment questions).

All students are encouraged to complete our LLN Learning Tool before enrolment to help determine suitability and identify any support needs.

If a student chooses not to disclose support needs, disabilities, or learning conditions, or does not complete the LLN Learning Tool, South Coast Community College may be unable to identify or provide appropriate support.
